Marina Suma: the icon, cinema and her jewels
interview by Alessandra Izzo

It was in 1981 when at the Venice Film Festival, all shouted to the miracle, about a new star of cinema born after years of dark. The star, Marina Suma, actress and icon of cinema of these years, was the protagonist of the beautiful film of Salvatore Piscicelli “Le Occasioni di Rosa”.  Marina is still always beautiful and solar as that times and she has been a real icon of the screens and more. After been the number one of Italian cinema and having worked with all the greatest directors in cinema and theater, Marina since some years also deals with fashion, or better with accessories of fashion, creating extraordinary necklaces of cartapesta from taking her inspiration from a magic place: Salina, Leni indeed, in Sicily. She also collaborate with an amazing artist from Palermo, Simonetta Russotto with their fashion collection called LANAPESTA, made of cartapesta and wool.

These two women have conceived a collection full of colors as warm as that sun of the South of the world in a style mixing chic and hippie, that Marina and Simonetta have re-invented in these years and with a lot of success.

Marina, you are an icon of the cinema and you are becoming that now also in fashion. From what time are you interested in creating jewels of cartapesta? Tell us more of this job.

I have already been creating these necklaces for 7 years and it is a passion born to the sudden one, perhaps already thought and had been absorbing for years in how much also lived in the middle of the art…My father has publicized a Neapolitan painter for about 15 years….in the years 70..Then I have always admired artists, painters, creative…

You have been for years over that one of the in demand actresses in the cinema (both in the cinema of author and in that manistream) also a sex symbol. I remember that an evening to a supper to the festival in Venice, talking to a great American producer, it told me that he had two obsessions in the life: Laura Antonelli and Marina Suma.

How do you live the being an object of the desire for a long time?

I must confess  that the history of the sexy symbol is a little old in the sense that is usually used to write in Italy so when an actress comes out with a film that makes to speak! To every way I don’t mind being a sexy symbol, however I like more being a sexy icon:)

Loves: cinema, theater or tv?

If I should make a list today I say…first theater, cinema and television. The theater is that that me from more satisfactions both as actress that when I am on the other side, as part of the public.

One passion that you’ve  never released? Obviously in general sense…

I love travelling. I consider me a true zingara, I like to discover places, people, unknown countries… and then I have the passion for the sport that do from since I was born!

Which director you miss more from the ones you have worked with?

I have made so many movies between cinema and tv… and I have so many beautiful memories about various directors, but if Ihave to tell you about a director with which I have worked well and I would keep on working it is surely Salvatore Piscicelli, the director of my first film, Le Occasioni di Rosa…
How much is important love in your life. Are you in love today?

Love for me is important and I love to be in love but I also love to be alone!

Do you practise some mantras? And does it attract your spiritual part of the life?

My mantra is the contact with the nature, I try to have him/it the more possible because it reconciles me with myself and then to I not only succeed in meditating, and to relax me really to enter the spiritual part that is me…if I think to a style of life, I surely draw near me to that Buddhist.

Concerning your jewels, when you will make again a show in Italy?

I don’t know yet. There are some things to do. The last one has been in Trieste with Daniela Michelli, a creative good that draws on the silk and we have united our art creating so a called event “Deep sea”

Would you like to expose your art to London or to New York?

Yes! I would like so much.. It’s my dream!
What about the future?
I don’t know by now… but I have some interesting projects! Meanwhile I devote me to the creativeness of my necklaces! It’s good for my  heart!
