Over 30 years after his first sortie, Mad Max returns in better form than ever. The film by Australian Georges Miller features a stupendous cast including, amongst others, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. This fourth film, which promises to be nothing short of explosive, is presented Out of Competition.
45 years after the end of the world, the Earth has been depleted of all its resources. There is neither drinking water nor electricity. Tormented by his difficult past, Max Rockatansky decides to go it alone in order to survive, far from civilisation. In this post-apocalyptic universe, he is picked up by a gang of rebels led by the Empress Furiosa (Charlize Theron), who is fleeing a horde of enemies in hot pursuit, led by the Warlord, Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). The journey into the desert to escape him turns into a hellish chase.
Mad Max: Fury Road is a superlative film in every sense. It took director Georges Miller fully ten years to bring this fourth Mad Max adventure to the screen and turn it into a real visual experience. Nearly 6 months of shooting were required to recreate this nightmarish and realistic world. 3,500 storyboards were made, thousands of costumes put together and 150 vehicles built. 80% of the action scenes were made without using digital effects.
Georges Miller directed, produced and wrote the screenplay. He made the first Mad Max played by Mel Gibson in 1979, in what became a global blockbuster. Amidst all the road wars and chase scenes, he set out with this fourth film to make a breathtakingly authentic opus. As a creator of worlds, Georges Miller loves the adrenaline that filmmaking produces. “I set out to make the audience jump right out of their seat, to get them caught up in a chaotic and action-packed cavalcade, And along the way they get to know the characters and events that have lured them into this story.”
